The cotton in this product is grown with less water, less chemical fertilizers and less chemical pesticides, while increasing profit margins for the farmers. That way, we lower our environmental impact.

We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.

Great couchNickThis couch was easy to put together. Super comfortable5
Very nice and quality couch.JeanMe and my wife we are loving the couch and our cats too. Nice color and very well built. I put 2 couches together in less than 2 hours myself with no help, being from Sweden I am use with IKEA products. So I am very happy with this product.5
Great sofaElaineLove the sofa , the fabric and is comfortable . I would give it a five star if the cushions and pillows had more “insulation “ . I would love more “fluffiness “ in the seating cushions and pillows . Other than that , really good product!4
Nice quality, good priceHarryA good soft, comfy couch. It's long enough and wide enough for a nap or even an overnight guest. Easy assembly in 1-2 hours. It took more time to put the covers on the cushions than it did to assemble the frame.5
Perfect Sofa!ALYSSAThis is the perfect sofa on a budget. It’s quite comfortable and the material is great. Only downside is the smell of the “wood” for the first week or so after it airs out it goes away. Would definitely recommend and will probably buy more pieces in the future to go with this sofa5
Harlanda SofaDavetaVery comfortable. And it's cute5
great sofa!WilliamThe Haarlanda is nice and big, enough to nap comfortably in (I'm 6'1"/185cm). I can relax in it for hours without becoming sore, and it was easy to put together with a little intuition (lots of instructions for each piece, but none for the main unit.)5
Great sofaAnnThis was a great buy, especially for the cost. Durable fabric and very comfortable. I took off one pillow which makes it better support on the back. A bit hard to put together for one person and very heavy - have someone help you! I also purchased the ottoman which was huge and a couple of inches higher than the sofa. I bought some taller feet for the sofa and now the seat and ottoman are the same heights. Overall would highly recommend!4
Pleasantly surprised...Great couchANGELAHonestly we never thought about buying a couch from IKEA previously. However with the pandemic furniture is hard to come by, turns out even from IKEA. This was the only couch in stock and the only color available. It was pretty easy to assemble. I must say we were pleasantly surprised how comfortable it is!!! And the color has grown on us and we love it now!! We also bought the matching chaise and an ottoman.5
Love this sofa. Comfy andDorothyLove this sofa. Comfy and large. Perfect.5
Exactly as pictured!Cali2nvilleI bought this couch a few months ago and have no regrets!! It’s comfy enuff, the exact style and look i wanted! The only drawback for me was the challenge of putting together. I tried putting together on my own and got stuck at trying to attach the armrest - I couldn’t get the screws to line up with the holes! I thought it due to me needing a second person so I waited a few weeks in this COVID-19 era until I could get someone over to help me with it. Once I got a second pair of hands we realized a big part of the problem was that I had the bottom frame on backwards! It took my cousin an hour to figure this out. Once he did, it took another hour to disassemble everything and then reassemble properly! Once everything was assembled properly, all the screws lined up perfectly! Hindsight, I wouldn’t try putting this together alone - definitely a two person deal!5
Good for the priceTheresa917I love the look of the sofa. I’ve had this sofa for almost a month and it’s still very stiff. I wish it was a little bit more comfortable but it is quite comfortable and good looking for the price point!4
Very disappointedSahil PatwardhanMy wife and I bought this sofa online in California and it was delivered about 2.5 weeks ago. We bought it because there weren’t too many choices available due to the lockdown situation and we had just moved to a new apartment with no furniture. The sofa has barely been used for 2.5 weeks and it’s already given way and has sagged down to the point where it’s causing both my wife and I back pain if we sit on the sofa for too long! The back cushions are also quite thin and have no back support. I think it is quite unacceptable for a product to be in this bad a shape not even a month after its use when it’s brand new! You literally can’t sit in this sofa and get up easily, just getting up is a real task! We finally got another smaller sofa and have kept this one aside to not use it as much as possible! Definitely going to return it once the stores are open!2

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable and renewable fiber that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry. By only using recycled cotton or cotton from more sustainable sources, working with partnerships and initiatives on the ground and prioritizing compliance, we believe that we can make a positive impact in the world of cotton.

100% cotton from more sustainable source

Since 2015, all cotton in IKEA products is either recycled or comes from more sustainable sources*. This means that we only source cotton grown using sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of fertilisers, pesticides and water, improve working conditions and earnings for farmers, and benefit ecosystem health and biodiversity conservation. We have set up a system that enables use to trace all our cotton and ensure that the final product is from approved, certified sources. *Cotton from more sustainable sources commits to the following schemes: Better Cotton (as defined by BCI, including their equivalence in various geographies), cotton from farmers working towards the BCI standard (TBC).

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labor, child labor or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibers. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
