Great drawers for what I neededSamanthaThese are exactly what I needed for the space. Disappointed that the back was not also white. I need it to be so I used contact paper to disgui6the ugly look of the open wood.3

Awesome shelfajlacombeThis is a great shelf - it has some some drawers inside the shelf. It is super easy to assemble and I really find it useful on a day to day basis. It is a nice way to add some drawers to a place that would not normally have them (under a shelf). The ONLY downside is that it should come in some colors to match the other IKEA lines for drawers and dressers. Only having white means that it could possibly stick out in a room of all blue furniture. A black/brown offering would be a good next one to add - then maybe a woodgrain would be enough, but the new blue would be great.5
Vanity-drawersPaul13Bought it for vanity unit but does not come with brackets so make sure you purchase some brackets from somewhere. No notice on it to say u need to purchase brackets - eight messing about finding appropriate brackets1
Right sizeMomogirlSometimes you need a setup that is simple and minimal to keep your life organized. Bought this desk for my daughter to use as a vanity. She had just a small space available in her closet to make her own and she loves it. We anchored it to the wall to keep it steady and added Ikea peg boards for additional display surface and easy access to beauty products. Perfect combination!!!5
So in loveMeryn62I make everyone come into my room so they can see it! I am completely obsessed.5
Doing the JobNorwaterfordAll in all this suits my purpose as I need extra drawers and something to set my small TV on (on my desk). The downfall is that the drawers don't open very far so you really can't take full advantage of them, but they are fine for sticking papers in.4
LOVE.. but..Amanda34I have had these shelves up in my living room for roughly 6 months now. I LOVE them. They look amazing and are exactly what I was looking for! The only problem is they only come in white.. which is not my jam. I did go through the monumental task of painting them black (Seriously, took forever and was SUCH a pain!).. and it was totally worth it... but, come on IKEA! Help those of us out who just can't do white and add a black, gray, black/brown... anything!!4
good priceAlisa666I got it to use it as a vanity table. It took me less than 20 min to put it together. Because of the really poor quality, I had to spend another $100 to buy a glass to put it over the top. Otherwise, the top of this shelf would get destroyed in less than a month4
X Mas GiftGuerillaGucciBought this for my niece as a house warming present for the new house. She loves it, uses it daily! The minimalist look really adds a modern feel to the room.5
Used for vanity deskKay7110Used it for a vanity desk and I love it!!!!5
Great qualityMgarcia94Am so happy with it, use for my make-up5
Cute and lots of storageAphrodite122I love my Alex drawer set. It holds all of my cosmetics and personal products. I've turned it into a makeup vanity. However, the first shelf I purchased broke during assembly. I barely tightened a lock on the drawer piece and the partical board gave way. I had to replace it and the second one I had better luck with. Just be very gentle when assembling the drawers!4
SharrineTurned two of these units into my vanity.5
Poor Quality for PricesadiemaePurchased this in early November and assembled the same day of purchase. We found that the construction of this particular shelving was a bit flimsy compared to the many IKEA cabinets we have have assembled and installed previously. Also, once the EKBY Alex Shelf with drawers was 75% assembled, we discovered that the top plank had a huge crack going down the middle of it. This meant that it had to be returned an disassembled. Although a shelf with drawers seemed like a cool feature, they are really small and shallow. They would only hold small flat things like scissors, pencils etc. The plan was to add some shelving to a storage closet in our home-based art studio. We ended up buying two of the EKBY JÄRPEN Shelves in birch along with 6 EKBY VALTER Brackets. This setup allowed for better storage space, sturdier shelves and a better value, only $18 more than the EKBY ALEX with Brackets. WE were able to store about 12 gallon size containers of acrylic paint and varnish using the two EKBY JARPEN shelves with six supporting brackets total.1
Looks great!Rebecca50Love the look of this shelf on the wall. Great storage!5
PerfectNara1984I do like it, is not that big of space but it could be used for small items and papers mail, pens, organizing small stuff. Easy to install!4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill waste – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a valuable resource instead of being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look. The day your sofa or bed needs replacing, the material in the particleboard can be recycled into something entirely new.
