When it comes to home furnishing, trends come and go. But some basic needs remain. One of these is the need to store things. Ever since it was introduced in the 1960s, IVAR storage system has helped people with this, contributing to orderliness in homes all over the world. But our studies showed that IVAR was missing one thing: a lockable storage. Conveniently enough, the solution was right under our noses.
Our product developer Karin Blindh Pedersen knows what people appreciate about IVAR. ”It’s a flexible piece of furniture and sort of like a blank canvas that you adapt as you like. And it’s durable and robust – if the wood gets scratched, you just grind it over”, says Karin.
Over the years, IVAR has been updated with a number of accessories that customize how you can use the storage. But something was missing. ”When we performed new studies in homes around the world, we saw how some form of closed storage was needed for things like light bulbs, batteries, paint cans and cleaning items”, says Karin. ”A lockable cabinet which is durable and easy to keep clean.”
Sometimes the solution is closer than you think. Everything needed was already in the range. Of course JOSEF metal cabinet and the lock in HURDAL linen cabinet were adjusted a little for new purposes, but there are many benefits by starting with well-known products. ”This benefits our customers when it comes to both quality and price,” explains Karin. “We know the designs work and we have good suppliers. This way we also save time and money in product development.”
The metal cabinet not only provides new functionality but also gives IVAR a new and slender industrial look. The timeless workhorse continues to deliver smart storage in homes across the world. Who knows what new needs IVAR will solve 50 years from now?
