By using particle board with a slice of wood as top layer instead of only solid wood in this product, we use less wood per product. That way, we take better care of resources.

We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.

Fantastic Kitchen IslandKyleMy wife and I are using it as our kitchen table in our small apartment and the storage it provides is fantastic, but most importantly it looks great, i have even had a neighbors see it through the window and tell me how nice it is!5
Vadholma IslandAMANDAAbsolutely love this island. It is perfect for our kitchen. It was relatively easy to put together definitely takes 2 people though.5
Great addition to our kitchenKRISTYThis island has been one of the best things we purchased for our kitchen. Great storage and plenty of room to roll out our pie dough. Glad we got it with the rack as it has added even more space to put items away. Great to hang a fruit basket holder (IKEA's) from. We purchased different stools than what they had. We were glad we got them with seat backs, more comfortable to seat at to eat or for projects.5
Love It!EricThis one was hard to find as it is so popular. We watched for it online and ordered it as soon as it was available again. We drove 4 1/2 hours just to pick it up. We love it and recommend it to anyone looking to add some space to their kitchen!5
Great islandANGELAExcellent product for the price5

Solid but pricey- maybe skip the rackJenniferThe island is what I expected and have added two barstools to serve meals, and have sufficient storage on the opposite side. Also ordered the overhead rack, which never really served as storage shelving and only served to block the view in the kitchen. I took that down and am happier without it.4
I love this product. DefinitelyPhyllisI love this product. Definitely a great addition and improvement to our kitchen.5
Most item I have in my kitchen.Debbie from NYLove it, have had it about a year now, looks great performs well, my husband and I put it together, took 2 of us about 2 hours (and my husband has Parkinson's). The biggest problem was the weight, the top is heavy but we managed. Just separate the pieces so you know what goes where and it will be fine. Should come or have my hooks available to purchase and a lighting accessory or a way to plug in appliances would be nice. We used wire ties to hold a powerstrip to the leg and attached an LED light strip to the overhead rack.5
Great featuresBrunogirl8I bought this several months ago. Love the island but it took forever to put it together. Now however, there is a bubble the size of an orange coming up in middle of island. There is no screw underneath so it’s not something I did when putting it together!! I am beyond dismayed. I cannot get ahold of ANYONE at IKEA. I tried customer service but can’t get anywhere with that. Only can cancel an order. Not helpful!!!3
Solid Kitchen IslandFOSTAAAWe got this months ago and it has held up great! The pre-drilled screw holes on the top bar did not line up but we just left it unsecured as it did not affect the structural integrity.5
thephilosoftAwesome piece. Stylish, sturdy, lot's of space5
Excellent work tablewhamscafeLooks very nice esthetically too, assembly was a bit of a pain though.5
Just what I neededShakesmom2I had planned to purchase another island but when I saw this one I had to have it. It looks great and is very sturdy. The only drawback was trying to put it together. If you know IKEA's instructions, you'll know they are almost incomprehensible. It took 3 of us 5-6 hours.5
Best Kitchen IslandNoodle Cat 88Bought this on July 2019 and this perfectly fits in our split level home! It has a cutting board top and lots of hanging hook for small pans or pots or decor! We haven't found the right stools yet, but currently has our extra dinning chairs. There is lots of extra space to store bigger pots/pans and our Woks fit perfectly there! We absolutely love this kitchen island and recommend it for your kitchen!5
Perfect island!TiffyjeanI purchased this island a few months ago and am still so happy! It went together easily and is sturdier than I thought it was going to be.5
Kitchen Island with rackBibeyMy wife has always wanted one. We finally found an island at Ikea. It was a good price and it well made. Solid wood top. I'm impressed. Didn't like the fact that you have to buy the rack separate though. The pic and name shows both together and that is the way it should sell. My wife smiles every time she looks at it. If all of Ikea's furniture is like this one, I will buy more furniture from Ikea. Recommend 2 people for assembly.5
Absolutely love itPixie DustWe bought this a couple months ago and totally love it. Looks nice and we love that we can move it around if needs be !!!!5
Samar62Bought this 3 months ago and so happy with the way it looks in our kitchen5
Sturdy and well builtDMShoneyWe bought this a few months ago and love it. It is very well built and sturdy. Fits perfectly in our kitchen. My only complaint is that it did not come with enough S hooks, and Ikea does not sell extra ones that match the set if you need more. We had one little issue with a couple of the holes being drilled a couple millimeters over from where they should have been, which made getting the screws in difficult during assembly, but we got it figured out. Otherwise, we absolutely love it!5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill waste – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a valuable resource instead of being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look. The day your sofa or bed needs replacing, the material in the particleboard can be recycled into something entirely new.
