A good solution!JACKThe 42” shelf was a perfect addition as a utility and storage shelf in my kitchen.5
Great ShelfKevinWe use these almost everywhere for our facilities to hold cable boxes and soundbars under our flatscreen televisions. They are easy to mount and look great. Use cable runways to hide cables emanating from the devices.5

Better than expectedWes W.Tried other shelves(not from Ikea), but this one was the best of the bunch. It is exactly what I needed to hold my center speaker. It is solid and was easy to install and looks great. I thought my only choice was going to be a solid wood shelf for a couple hundred dollars. I am so glad I found this shelf.5
Worst Customer Service I purchased 2 shelves for my bathroom renovation. I was notified that my order was delivered (one Box). The box was in good condition and I set aside to have installed after contractors finished bathroom. When I opened the box to get shelves installed. There was only 1 shelf! The box is 3.5 inches deep and the shelf is 2 inches. Impossible for two 2-inch deep shelves to fit thus the reason the box was also stuffed with paper. The listed weight of shelf on the website 7lbs 10oz for a single shelf. The box delivered weighed slightly less that 10 lbs. Two shelves weigh over 15lbs. I called support about the missing Shelf and was told that I am past the time period for resolving issue of missing shelf!!!!! The Service Rep kept repeating a written script that the purchase was past the 60 day period! I asked more than 5 times to speak to her mgr. She indicated there was nothing to do since I was past the 60 days. NEVER PURCHASE ONLINE FROM IKEA!Deborah D.I purchased 2 shelves for my bathroom renovation. Great Contemporary ShelvesMANDYThe Lack shelves are well made and great for decorating and/or organizing.5
Beautiful shelf, but began sagging after 1 yearKristen R.We bought the 43" and 74" lack shelves about 1 year ago. The brackets are easy to install and the shelves have made our home office beautiful and functional. However after a year, the 43" shelf began to sag (was holding roughly 20-25 lbs of office supplies/books). We took the shelf apart and saw that the arms of the brackets were pointing ever so slightly downward. We ended up sliding a paint stick underneath the bracket and tightened the top screws so that the shelf was actually up-sloping (we did three, 50 pound metal anchors spaced throughout only on the top holes, not the bottom). Added back all of our heavy stuff and now the shelf is as level as it was on day 1. You really can't beat the price and you can always adjust the bracket as we did if your shelves begin to sag over time.5
It’s just a lot ofJayIt’s just a lot of money to hold a fake plant but it looks good4
Lack ShelfFilomeniaNice good quality5
Lack shelfBrionteMy only reason for the 4 star review is the fact that the shelf does not come with the main screws needed to put it up. It was a inconvenience to not know this when I was buying the shelf. If I didn’t have a husband that loves gadgets , I would have had to make another trip just to get screws. I feel like everything needs to be included on products.4
Easy floating shelvesVICTORIALove the look of these shelves and they were relatively easy to install. However, they do sag toward the front which makes them not the best for items that are going to roll off. I like the look and they were an inexpensive, easy fix for what we needed.4

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light and resource-efficient, yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.

Function solution

How much weight can a shelf hold?

Even a strong wall shelf will only be able to bear a little weight if it's attached to the wall with the wrong hardware. For a wall shelf to be practical and secure you must use the right hardware for the wall type. Check if your walls are concrete, plaster or wood. There are hardware for all wall types. If you can, try to determine what part of the wall is load-bearing. The most secure place to mount a shelf is on the bearing part of the wall.
