This has been the worst assembly everJacquelineI've put many Ikea furniture products together in my life time but the locking mechanism instructions and the fronts to these drawers suck. I've tried several times for those drawer fronts to stay on with no success . The drawers are two huge for women to carry and manipulate .1
Finally in stock!DennisI purchased a second unit because the first unit purchased three years ago was full. I also have the upper Galant shelving units and several Billy bookcases in my home office.5
Great filing cabinetREGINAThe assembly directions were spot on - love having a combination lock instead of keys.5
Very nice traditional filling storage.Marie J.Very nice traditional filling storage. My 2 items side by side are looking pretty good in white. The drawers are working smoothly and well. Seems strong for my heavy load of storage. "Quality" (in all areas of life) seems to be hard to get these days. It should not be a luxury. This one seems to have good quality. Time of use will tell. Back Order is a problem for all the items I am looking to buy.4
file cabinetWilliamExcellent cabinet that is secure and a good looking piece of furniture .5
It is beautifulKarenWe are both skilled; this did give us a run for our money! It took some brute force to get the drawers to “click” in. But, all right now!5
Compromise for pricingMaryA few notes: It would have been better if this can match Billy bookcase or if the Billy line has its own filing cabinet to match its bookcase. At any event, this is our “make-do” filing cabinet that sold out so quickly. It wasn’t as hard to assemble as I thought it would be based on others’ reviews - as long as you are comfortable following its visual assembly directions. One potential danger is that this filing cabinet can and did tip forward in our use. I suspect it is because we only had files on the bottom drawer and when it was all pulled out, the cabinet fell forward because there was nothing in the top drawer to balance it safely. You may want to consider nailing it to the wall with the safety nail, etc. Definitely not safe for kids who like to climb, open drawers, etc.3
A fine file cabinet forTomA fine file cabinet for the money. Easy to assemble and a nice clean look.5
Lock doesn’t work.VirginiaI am not pleased. Put cabinet together set the lock and went to unlock the cabinet abs it will not unlock. The elevator is out in my building and I live on the 5th floor. Also we had a snow storm abs can’t get out to return the cabinet abs get another one. I hope that you will take it back when our elevator is repaired. I am looking forward to get another one soon.1
Terrible, IKEA should have built a failsafe key.Chris_1140Yea sure a lock sounds great until you actually forget the code and get locked out forever. IKEA, yall should have provided a key lock incase this happens. Many customers are not happy with this. I also tried calling customer support no one is available to pick up the phone. Whats the point of spending 3 Benjamins if I can't even open the thing1
Great Product! But missing 2 Parts!OG 2020This was easy to build with the instructions step by step. Very sturdy and great quality. Only problem is that it was missing 2 parts. I went back to IKEA the next day and they did not have these 2 missing parts #117774 and #117775. They told me they didn't have in stock and system would not allow for order. So, this is why this review received 4 starts and not 5 stars. If I can get the parts sent, then I will update to 5 stars.4
Bought for home officeShadMaryI purchased this for my home office. Assembly was fine, no issues there. However the lock worked fine for 2 uses and now has locked me out and I can't get it to open.3
Great file cabinetBamabobSturdy and large enough to hold all our files5
Ignore the Negativos...This is Awesome!ErinVJust got it delivered and assembled it. Perfect condition. Looks beautiful. Unexpectedly high quality. Very easy assembly, took us exactly 1.5 hours, with many mini-breaks for high-fives and dance-offs. So put on some high-paced music and enjoy proving all the 4-6 hour assembly negative reviews wrong, and finish strong by staring at your new friend while cheersing your partner with a victory glass of whatever!5
Drawers won"t close completelyDina07730Instructions are not clear enough and assembly takes 6-8 hours. Once ready - the drawers won't close completely! There is a gap of 1/4 inch, so the lock would not lock. This flaw defeats the whole purpose of buying this drawer unit. Can somebody advise what we need to do in order to close this gap? I would not recommend this unit unless you take Ikea service for assembly.2
Joe20000000009Good except for lock malfunctions. This is a BIG problem. Ikea should remove it from product. Also, not as well made as the single drawer cabinet I bought from Ikea 4 years ago. I think costs were cut.4
Great CabinetLowanderWho knew a security cabinet would look so beautiful!5
Some serious design flawsSvensk diasporaMe: I've designed and installed a massive PAX closet, and assembled more IKEA bookcases, cabinets and tables than I care to count. I enjoy assembling IKEA furniture. Here are the pros: - I like that the files face forward when you pull out the drawer. No sideways looking! - It's pretty sturdy once you get it together - It looks OK if you can get the drawers in properly (see below). And here are the cons: - It's challenging to assemble. Not for IKEA beginners. - If you want to store things other than files (I don't), note that the sides of the drawers are too low to hold much. - My top drawer closes completely but there is a 1/4 gap at the top, which creates a noticeable black line across the front. Which I don't love. - The lock mechanism works smoothly, but I can see why some people would have trouble with that aspect of assembly. The drawing in the instructions is confusing. And here are the REALLY BAD cons: - As noted in the reviews for the 4-drawer GALANT unit, the plastic base of this thing is ridiculously flimsy. It fell out when the whole cabinet was lifted, despite being secured per the instructions (I tried twice). You can't drag it across carpet, and it badly marks up hardwood floors. This is a HUGE design flaw. It's actually weird, it's so crummy -- normally, even when you can tell IKEA is saving money on materials, they aren't this bad. - Yes, you can put your legal-sized files in here -- but only on one side!! If you use legal size, almost half of the (shallow sided) drawer is unusable. (See page 47 in the instructions.) So I'm going to go buy dozens of letter-sized hanging files rather than return this monster. Overall: not recommended.1
Review correction. I love itmervy2I gave this a bad review a couple of weeks ago because I could not get it together. When someone much stronger than I came to help me return it, she was able to close the drawer, and then everything worked perfectly. I guess I just wasn't strong enough to finish the final step of assembly. So now I love my file beautiful file cabinet, and it works exactly as it should. But it should not take that much strength to assemble this product. I took off one star for the difficulty of assembly. (And the website would not let me update my review, so I had to use a different name.)5
I give up. Cannot assemble correctly.mervyFirst, let me explain that I have assembled an entire Ikea kitchen, a 9 drawer Hemnes dresser, a Brimnes bed, and assorted sofas, chairs, tables, shelving units, children's beds, and desks. I know how to follow directions and I understand the Ikea way. But this file cabinet is my undoing. I cannot get the bottom drawer to close more than 80%, and I can't get the top drawer clips to move to an angled position (See assembly guide pages 45-46.). I have been calling customer service, but they are perpetually experiencing higher than normal customer contact and cannot take any calls. I guess I have to have somebody help me load this back-breaker so I can return it. No way do I want to assemble another one.1

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill waste – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a valuable resource instead of being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look. The day your sofa or bed needs replacing, the material in the particleboard can be recycled into something entirely new.
