Sturdy cabinetSARAWe used two 36" cabinets to build a bar. We had a heavy piece of quartz laid on the bar and the cabinets are strong enough to hold it without any problems. I am very impressed overall with how this project turned out.5

We love Ikea kitchen cabinets!charleneWe looked at cabinets all over, even drove across 5 states to look at another company's RTA (ready to assemble) wooden cabinets. We've installed several Ikea kitchens in previous homes and others', but thought we should make sure we weren't being too narrow-minded. Many told us we were dropping the resale value of our home going with Ikea, so we wanted to be confident we'd done our due diligence. We'd ordered an Ikea kitchen online in the last days of their 20% off sale in February/March 2020, when Covid was just hitting. Because of issues with their site, that sale wouldn't go through. We contacted customer service repeatedly who told us to go to our local store. We visited our local store repeatedly, alas, we never received that kitchen or price. We had saved for 5 years to create our dream kitchen and were waiting for a sale to pull the trigger. That out a dampener on our enthusiasm and caused us to revaluate. Fast forward to Fall 2021. Here's why we came back: Price, effeciency, guarantee. Although the price was significantly more than we'd hoped/planned to pay originally, it was still cheaper than anyone else's, by far. After eliminating other options, we had thought we'd go with Cabinets to Go and their 40% of sale. We didn't. Their price was thousands more and their design had less flexibility and effeciency in cabinet sizes and function. We hit some serious snags in our total gut, DIY kitchen reno. Who doesn't? We had to come up with some creative solutions to work around. Thankfully, Ikea cabs worked to the inch with us on those. Offering a variety of sizes (including 21" wide base cabinet), along with shallow depth base cabinets makes them extra flexible. I designed not just the exterior, but the interiors to the inch long before the cabinets were ordered. We are a large family who regularly host not just large gatherings but other families to live with us for weeks or months at a time. We NEEDED a high efficiency, hard-working kitchen. I WANTED a beautiful kitchen. We got BOTH!! We are still finishing details like overhead lighting, arching a new doorway, but cannot overstate the effeciency and flexibility of their kitchen systems. We've always done all of the work ourselves, and after this particular project, I'm considering becoming a kitchen designer and will happily be promoting Ikea. Note: Our very first experience with Ikea kitchen included young children who helped in the kitchen. Apron front sinks, young children and Ikea cabs are not the best mix. But the warranty came to our rescue and replaced those water damaged under-sink door fronts. If Ikea did not have this warranty and I had young children, I'd rethink. Thankfully the warranty is a generous time frame.5

Love my new cabinets!!PatriciaWe love the way our new cabinets look and work! The instructions were simple and easy-IF you follow them precisely!! Great buy! So versatile and smart! Design each cabinet your own way! So happy with them!5
Love and hateMichelleI love Ikea cabinets! I remodel houses and have used them in almost every house I’ve done including 3 of my own. I say almost because there are times that a lot of the cabinets are out of stock with no idea when they will be in stock. The supply chain for cabinets is broken and not just since COVID-19. I hope they fix this problem someday5
Solid cabinetMohamedI love it.5
Precision in manufacturingMarenaThe IKEA kitchen system has several mechanisms in design that simplify assembly. For example, panels don't have a left or right side which reduces construction mistakes. Holes are drilled correctly so cabinets line up correctly. The biggest issues I faced were dealing with imperfect walls and unlevel floors. Customer service was phenomenal as well. I ended up placing several orders due to supply issues but was able to get everything in the end.5
EASY as piePrevinsuper easy to assemble and quite strong...While it may not be custom, it is easily as strong and very versatile.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Our ambition is to help as many as possible to have a kitchen they'd love to be in. We started sketching. “When we created SEKTION, it was our biggest ever kitchen change, so it's fair to say we were very keen to get it right,” says technician Klas-Ola Nilsson.

Research from around the world

So, what would people’s dream kitchen be like? We surveyed thousands of people, visited hundreds of homes and worked with food industry professionals. “We found if there's one thing in common with kitchens around the world it's that they're different.” Klas-Ola says. “For as many people who dream of an open space kitchen, there are people with a small space, or have to fit a pre-existing room.”

From research to result

One element became blindingly important. “We realized we needed a kitchen system that could adapt to different sized spaces in a way that hadn't been done before,” Klas-Ola says. “So, we developed cabinets that could fit almost anywhere.” Different sizes can be mixed to best fit the room and they'll still fit together – without odd ends. The clever inside can be personalized to support your kitchen needs and activities, too.

Ready for the future

An adaptable kitchen fits better with how you like to cook, both now and in the future. Whether you start craving a more professional kitchen, or just want to start using it for more activities, we would love SEKTION to help out. “There's nothing to say that SEKTION is set and fixed now,” Klas-Ola says. “It's something that's evolving and that we're developing as our ideas on what a kitchen should do changes into the future.”

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is particleboard?

Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill waste – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a valuable resource instead of being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look. The day your sofa or bed needs replacing, the material in the particleboard can be recycled into something entirely new.
